The Stamford comes with the following key features as standard. There is the option to purchase additional features and these are detailed in the Optional Accessories Section.
For more information on seating posture and assessment please see our downloadable Clinical Posture Guide in the Brochure Section.
MechanismsThe Stamford is available with either a Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism with a rise and recline or a rise only mechanism. The recline only model comes in either an electric or manual version whilst the rise and recline model is electric. The Tilt in Space (TIS) movement allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards which prevents shearing and friction. When the seat is in the rise position it tilts transferring the user’s weight to their knees and taking away the pressure on the hips allowing them to walk away from the chair more easily. For further details on this mechanism, with video clips, visit the Mechanisms Section. |
Contoured BackThe contoured backrest is designed to maximise comfort through postural support. The shape of the backrest mirrors that of the spine providing support where it is most required. This allows muscles and connective tissue to relax whilst being held in a natural anatomical position therefore reducing effort, pain and discomfort. |
Pressure Management Seat CushionsThe Stamford comes with a choice of six seat cushions each with different pressure management features. You choose which one is most suitable for your client range and purpose and then it is fixed to the frame. With all these seat cushions we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction. See Seat Cushion Section for details on the individual cushions. |
Heavy-duty CastorsThe chair comes with four heavy duty lockable castors as standard. |
The following features can be purchased to enhance the functionality of the chair.
Full Length Arm cap Protective Covers on specFull length arm cap protective covers on spec, in matching fabric, can be purchased in pairs to protect the arms. |
HeadrestsThere are five headrests to choose from, all of which come with a Velcro tab allowing them to fit over the top cushions. For further details on each of these options please refer to the Headrest Section.
|
Drop Down Side TableThe side table is convenient access for the client's personal effects, or can be used to stabilise the arm during medical procedures. When not in use, the table simply folds down. |
Safety Options*For further details on the options below please refer to Safety Options Section.

For those who have good posture and mobility but sit for long periods of time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. Recommended for people with limited muscle bulk or at risk of excessive weight loss. This cushion has a high-density foam which offers a supportive and firm seat base. The foam is topped with a fluid liquid gel in a soft silicone cover which provides a high level of pressure relief. The liquid gel helps to dissipate heat and constantly adapts to the user’s movement.

The most important aspect to consider before purchasing any healthcare chair are the seating positions that are required to aid the conditions of the client and address any pressure and postural management needs.
The Stamford is available with either an electric Single Tilt in Space with rise movement or a recline only mechanism available in an electric or manual model. Please check the Sizes Section for all user weights and dimensions before selecting your chair. For demonstrations of the mechanisms described below please watch the relevant videos.

Single Tilt in Space Recline only
There is a manual and electric model in this mechanism. The Tilt in Space movement allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards. This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.
This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.
Single Tilt in Space
This mechanism, electric version only, has the same Tilt in Space movement as the recline only model but also has:
A rise position to aid standing from a seated position. As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair.
Accupak Rechargeable Battery System
The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair.
Please note that the Accupak is not compatible with the Reading Lamp.
Full user instructions can be found in the user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and Accupak. A copy of the manual can be found in the Brochures Section.
