Different Types of Recliner Chairs

When choosing a recliner chair, it’s important to understand the key differences between the different types of recliner chairs on the market.
Standard recliners provide basic comfort and support, while riser recliners include additional features to assist with sitting down and standing up, making them ideal for those with mobility difficulties. Power lift riser recliners offer even greater convenience with motorised adjustments for effortless positioning.
To find the best option, consider your personal needs, lifestyle, and health requirements.
What is a Recliner Chair?
Recliner chairs are generally upholstered armchairs that can be tilted backwards, usually with a footrest that extends out in front.
Different types of recliner chairs have different functions and purposes. For example, a standard or traditional recliners, also known as two-position recliners have a more basic reclining mechanism. These chairs offer two reclining positions: upright or fully reclined. This type of recliner chair is typically operated by a lever or handle and tends to be a cheaper solution for comfort.
A riser recliner chair is a specially designed seating solution for individuals who are starting to experience difficulty getting in and out of a standard chair. These chairs provide enhanced comfort and support, making it easier and safer for users to transition from sitting to standing. Additionally, a riser recliner chair offers a greater range of comfortable sitting and reclining positions compared to traditional sofas or standard recliner chairs.
Ultimately, recliner chairs are meant to provide a person with ultimate comfort, improved circulation, and ease of changing seating positions.

Mechanisms
Choosing the right mechanism is incredibly important for those with limited mobility as they will need to find a chair that can lift them to their feet or comfortably change position without needing assistance from another person.
- Single motor tilt in space
- Dual motor tilt in space
- Standard dual motor
- Single motor wallhugger
- VAL - Variable Angle Lift technology
The single motor tilt-in-space mechanism provides a 90-degree rise and recline function with a high-leg lift that encourages good circulation.
The dual tilt-in-space motor mechanism does everything that the single motor does but provides additional independent movement to the backrest and footrest.
The Single wallhugger mechanism uses space in front of the chair, rather than behind and only needs to be 6 inches away from the wall to provide a full recline position.
The VAL is a feature that offers a slightly more flexible function in comparison to other riser recliner mechanisms. Variable Angle Lift means you can set the angle at which the chair tilts you forward into a standing position.
